How much do employees receive for the holidays?

This year, companies are set to increase their spending on holiday-related employee initiatives compared to the previous year, according to the 40th edition of the "Employer Plans" survey by the Randstad Research Institute. The data shows that one in five employers plans to allocate over 500 PLN per employee for holiday purposes.

The survey, presented at the PAP Press Centre, also reveals that many businesses are preparing for a possible economic slowdown. About 24% of companies anticipate a recession, the highest rate since 2016. These concerns are less pronounced in larger companies, where only 15% expect an improvement in the economic situation.

Regarding hiring plans, the percentage of companies expecting to increase their workforce in the next six months has dropped to 24%, a decrease of 15 percentage points compared to the previous half-year. 62% of employers plan to maintain current staffing levels, while 11% are considering layoffs, compared to 4% last year.

Current plans for salary increases are linked to the need to adjust to the rise in the minimum wage. Half of the employers plan to implement wage increases in 2024.

This year, companies have prepared a variety of attractions for employees for the Christmas season. These often include organizing company Christmas parties, paying bonuses, or offering Christmas gifts. It is worth noting that some of these expenses come from the Social Fund (ZFŚS), and quarterly bonuses are tied to the company’s financial performance.

According to the survey, 80% of companies plan to give something to employees during the holiday season. Many of them combine various activities, such as organizing Christmas parties and granting bonuses. 22% of companies plan three types of activities: a Christmas gathering, bonuses, and participation in charitable actions.

Here is the breakdown of companies' plans for holiday attractions:

  • 47% of companies will organize a Christmas gathering
  • 34% of companies will provide holiday bonuses
  • 26% of companies will offer gift vouchers
  • 22% of companies will prepare gifts for employees or their families
  • 18% of companies will participate in charitable activities

More than half of the companies plan to spend up to 300 PLN per employee on holiday bonuses, while 20% intend to allocate more than 500 PLN. Data from the Nais platform shows that the average spending per employee ranges from 100 to 150 PLN. Nais observes two distinct trends related to the holiday season: an increase in charitable initiatives organized by employees themselves and a shift in the format of Christmas parties. More and more companies are organizing less formal gatherings, such as outings to bowling alleys, instead of traditional dinners at restaurants. There is also a move away from large, company-wide Christmas parties toward more intimate team meetings with managers.
