How to start appreciating?

Heads of Departments, Managers, Directors, and Company Leaders Participated in the Workshop: "How to Engage Employees to Keep Them with Your Company Longer: The Power of Appreciation and the Art of Giving Feedback"

The meeting was organized by the Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers.

Key conclusions from the workshop

During the workshop, participants were introduced to key facts:

  • Disengaged employees are less effective.
  • Appreciation from a direct supervisor is three times more effective than other forms of recognition.
  • Employees prefer working in companies where they feel they matter.
  • Salary becomes a less significant factor in job satisfaction over time.

Workshop activities

After the theoretical introduction, the workshop moved to practical group and individual exercises. Employees presented data on motivation, engagement, and appreciation, as well as trends in these areas, based on their experience working with clients.

Tools supporting employee engagement

One of the tools discussed was the Nais application, which supports building engagement through:

  • Rewarding employees.
  • Team integration.
  • Organizing employee contributions.
  • Managing the Employee Benefits Fund.

The application allows for personalized communication and transparent presentation of employees' total compensation.

Conclusions from the workshop activities

After several rounds of workshop work and Q&A sessions, participants identified several key challenges:

Difficulties in giving feedback:

  • Fear of the employee's reaction.
  • Doubts about one's own position.
  • Lack of knowledge about the subject.
  • Uncertainty about expectations and tasks.
  • Excessive familiarity with the employee.

Facilitators in giving feedback:

  • A sense of security in the relationship.
  • Self-confidence.
  • Awareness of the need to convey specific information.
  • Scheduling a meeting and agreeing on its course and rules.
  • Preparation for the conversation.
  • Knowledge of the employee's strengths and weaknesses.

How to effectively give feedback?

Feedback should be a developmental conversation. It is crucial that:

  • Information is conveyed quickly, shortly after the event.
  • Feedback is specific.
  • The employee is motivated to improve and enjoys praise.

Regular, skillfully given feedback is the simplest and most cost-effective tool for appreciating and engaging employees.
